I don’t plan my summers around rodeos, but I always seem to find myself in the right place at the right time a few times each season. Late June into July is known as “Cowboy Christmas” because of the plethora of rodeos taking place across the West. Every weekend, there’s a rodeo somewhere. This past weekend I happened to roll through southern Colorado right on time for the Alamosa Round Up on Friday night. I wasn’t sure how the photos would turn out under the low lights, but there’s a reason rodeos are one of my favorite photographic subjects: those magnificent cowboys, bulls & broncs never let me down!
Check out last summer’s rodeo posts from Eureka, Nevada and Quesnel, British Columbia. My essay on the Wild Ones appeared recently in the April/ May issue of Ranch & Reata Magazine.
